A businessman named Nana Yaw Mante has appeared before the Koforidua District Magistrate Court for unlawfully circulating nude videos of his 18-year-old ex-girlfriend.
Nana Yaw Mante has been charged with obscenity contrary to section 281(i) B of the Criminal Offence Act,29/60.
According to the Prosecutor, Sergeant George Defia, the suspect and his 18-year-old ex-girlfriend who is an SHS dropout were all residents of Awukugua in the Okyere District of the Eastern Region.
Sergeant George Defia told the court which was presided over by His Lordship Nana Osei Assibey that the suspect offered to help the victim to get back to school after she dropped out due to financial reasons but in the course assisting her, engaged her into a sexual relationship.
The young girl’s family became suspicious and confronted the suspect of which he denied having canal knowledge of the victim. The family managed to break them up but the suspect convinced her to come back and she did.
After they reunited, the suspect told the victim that he had taken her to a shrine and the priest is demanding for her nudes.
In November 2019, the accused lured the victim to Dawu near Adukrom-Akuapem where he recorded a series of sexually explicit videos of themselves.
Nana Yaw Mante then circulated the nude video to the victim’s aunt and two other men he claims were also dating the girl.
Upon the video going viral on social media, the victim reported the case to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit(DOVVSU) at the Regional Police Headquarters in Koforidua.
The aunt and the other two men who received the video confessed that the accused sent the videos to them.
However, the accused has been granted bail while the case has been adjourned to May 27 2020.
