Some Ghanaians have lamented over the number of Ghanaian artistes that performed at the Aiteo CAF Awards which was held at the Accra International Conference Centre yesterday.
Ghanaian artiste Efya opened the programme with a rendition of Ghana’s National Anthem and Kidi did the last performance.
There were other African artistes on the bill, predominantly Nigerian. The event saw performances from Nigerian Afro dancehall act, Patoranking, Flavour, Phyno, Olamide, Wizkid and Toofan from Togo and Fally Ipupa from Congo.
Ghanaian dancehall kingpin Shatta Wale who was billed to perform was did not make an appearance on stage last night.
Social media has been buzzing with comments by some Ghanaians and lovers of Ghanaian music who think as hosts of the CAF Awards, Ghanaian artistes should have dominated in the artiste line-up.
Founder of Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko took to Facebook to express his disappointment with the low representation of Ghanaian artistes at the Aiteo CAF Awards.
“Instead of treating us to some good Ghanaian performances, as well, CAF decided to populate the stage with Naija ones plus others, including a Nigerian artiste who was dressed as if he lost his way to the gym. I hear he is called Wizkid,” he wrote.

Ghanaian blogger and artiste manager, George Mensah Britton, also wrote on his Facebook page: “

A radio personality at Hitz FM, Kleff Maxwell Justic,e was not content with the fact that Kidi performed to end the show. According to him, it was disrespectful.
“Pls let’s stop the Kidi performed to end the show NONSENSE! Who and who did he perform to after a show was done and dusted?
We have been disrespected and that’s the issue here. And oh, stop blaming the Nigerian artistes, they are and were NOT the ORGANISERS of the event,” he also wrote on Facebook.

This has stoked the debate of what goes into the selection of artistes for the awards ceremony and how involved the local football association and the arts industry were in the organisation of the programme.
However there are some who have also asserted that the programme was an African event and that it was not right to automatically put more Ghanaian artistes on just because it was held in Ghana.
The 2017 Aiteo CAF Awards was hosted by Ghanaian Hollywood star Boris Kodjoe and London based TV host Mimi.
