Lynx Entertainment recording artist, Eugene Marfo, known by his stage name Kuami Eugene, says he has no interest in performing songs, by his former label mate, MzVee.
The two talented Ghanaian singers teamed up on several songs when they were on the same record label, with the ‘Come And See My Mother’ hit singer being the top benefactor.
MzVee featured Kuami Eugene on two hit singles, “Bend Down” and “Rewind”. Kuami also wrote and produced songs for her.
Speaking in a recent interview with 3FM’s MzGee, Kuami Eugene who is currently promoting his new single ‘Turn Up’ mentioned that he won’t perform any of the songs he worked on for MzVee.
“They are not my songs; I’ll perform my original songs, ‘Rewind’ is not my song; it hers. I can’t perform.” he said.
He went on to justify his decision saying,”.. God, being so good, I have enough songs to perform rather than perform the old songs I did with [Mz]Vee. Even when she was with us, I didn’t perform her songs so why now?”
According to Eugene, he performing collaborations with MzVee hasn’t been his ritual because he has enough hit songs to perform.
“I wasn’t used to performing that songs I did with MzVee because I have ‘Adwenfi’, ‘Angela’, ‘Confusion’, ‘Wish Me Well’ and ‘Carry Last’ to perform.”
Asked why he is indifferent about MzVee, he answered “I care about MzVee. If not, I wouldn’t have written ‘Daavi’ and ‘Come and See My Mother’ and even produced the song at 3 am instead of sleeping.”
He continued “So, I love MzVee that much. I think about her a lot. I don’t think she has to show gratitude to me. She doesn’t owe me one. She should just be herself.”
