Songstress Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah known by her stage name Mzbel says she’s put her music career on hold for political reasons.
She told Graphic Showbiz in an interview that she took such decision because promoting her latest song, ‘Tongues’ was difficult.
Mzbel mentioned that her affiliation with the then governing National Democratic Congress affected the promotion of the song.
“Music is kind of on hold for now. The main reason is that when I released Tongues, promoting it was difficult. It was right after the general election and I had shown my face as to who I supported, so there was hatred. I went for a nationwide tour but it still didn’t work.” she said.
According to Mzbel, her focus is now on her private businesses and not music though she mentioned she’s a pending European tour.
“As things stand now, if I release a song, I won’t be able to promote it and I won’t get gigs because of political reasons. I have about 11 or 12 songs to be released so I put them on my website.
“I, however, have a yet-to-be-confirmed European tour that will take me to about four European countries. At the moment, I am focusing my energy on my pub and other things,” she said.
Mzbel, doubles as a radio broadcaster and hosts ‘Odo Nso’ on Media General’s Onua FM.
According to her, she really enjoys hosting the show and the feedback has been amazing.
“They gave me a one-year contract but they were happy with me so they have renewed it. On the show, we discuss s*x, marriage and relationships. We also share our sexual experiences.
“I have received some backlash because some people think I am not qualified to host the show because I am not married, but I disagree with them because I have been in a couple of relationships. I enjoy hosting the show because I am allowed to be myself. It is so much fun,” Mzbel concluded.
