Senior Rent Manager at Rent Control Office in the Ashanti Region, Paul Kofi Appiah has disclosed that it is the duty of the Rent Control Department to determine the price before anyone can rent a room.
According to him, before a rent control officer could do that one has to request. The price will be determined by the size, location, amenities as well as wash room and toilet facilities.
Mr Kofi Appiah speaking on Onua FM on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, he said it is not the responsibility of landlords to regulate price of rooms for rent.
The presence of water and electricity are also factors in determining the price.
The Rent Control Manager revealed that landlords are not permitted to charge more than six months advance . He said, “a tenant is as well protected by the act to seek redress if a landlord arbitrarily increases the rent after the initial six months rent advance.”
Landlords can increase their rent fee after two years and that is only when value has been added to the room.
The Rent Control Department called on the public to always come to them for assessment to help resolve all rent related problems.
