Melanin Ghanaian actress and television personality Ama K. Abebrese has asked Ghanaian ladies to desist from bleaching their skin.
Several African countries, including Rwanda and Ghana, has banned the use of skin bleaching products because they are dangerous.
The beautiful screen goddess indicated that it is good for ladies with dark skin to maintain their natural colour.
Although safer alternatives exist, many of the bleaching and lightening products used in Africa contain harmful ingredients such as mercury and high-dose steroids.
These ingredients can cause kidney failure and other illnesses, making skin bleaching a public health problem that governments need to address.
Speaking with Mamavi Owusu Aboagye on Joy FM’s Cosmopolitan Mix show, monitored by BrownGh.Com, she said all must endeavour to be proud of our natural skin.
