The president of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo during his eighth address to the nation on Sunday, Apirl 26,2020 revealed that two Cargo vehicles carrying 67 passengers was intercepted by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) of which 17 tested positive for coronvirus.

Ghana has recorded 1,550 Coronavirus cases so far with 155 recoveries and 11 deaths. The cases recorded include West African nationals who are supposedly aided by Ghanaians into the country.

The president warned and described this act as unpatriotic. “We cannot allow a few persons who are motivated by their own selfish money-making interest to endanger the lives of the rest of the population.”

To prevent the importation of Covid-19 into the country, the president on Sunday, March 22 closed the borders of the country and extended the closure by two more weeks on April 4,2020.

The cargo vehicle having on board the 67 persons was intercepted by the GIS on their way to the Oti Region after government lifted lockdown imposed on some parts of the country.

“All of (the passengers) were tested with 17 proving positive.”

Oti which until Friday, April 24 had not recorded any case is now the new region with highest number of confirmed cases and has moved to fourth on the regional chart. Only Greater Accra, Ashanti, and Eastern have recorded more cases.
