The Accra Regional Police Command has announced to the general public that it is not going to spare any citizen who will refuse to adhere to the preventive protocols which were directed by the President.
In the past few weeks, the command has arrested about 500 commercial “okada” riders who refused to wear nose masks while going about their business.
The Director of Operations of the Accra Regional Police Command, ASP Kwesi Ofori told the media that the operation will continue to ensure the safety of Ghanaians in the combat against the deadly virus.
“Those who feel they are not prepared to sacrifice for the state to assist in ensuring good health and public security we are going to clamp down on them seriously. We will arrest them and put them before the court. Okada riders have also tried to abuse this protocol and we have arrested about 500 motorbikes, most of whom have been taken to court and fined GH¢12,000 in default four years imprisonment.” he said.
The duty of the Police in Ghana now is to ensure that all citizens follow the preventive protocols and avoid unnecessary movement, following the lifting of the partial lockdown a few weeks ago.
The Accra Regional Alpha SWAT Commander, DSP Sulamana Sulley also said that security officers have been deployed to public places to ensure and also encourage the use of face masks and anyone who will refuse to comply will be asked to purchase one or return home.
Commercial bus drivers have also been warned not to accommodate any passenger who will refuse to wear the nose mask.
